Common Questions
The metronome keeps playing when I lock my phone or switch apps.
That is intended so you can play along with other apps. Return to Polypulser and press Stop to end it.
There is no sound.
Check the volume. The metronome plays even when your phone is set to silent, so use the volume buttons. Also check that the beats are not set to Silent. A beat with a rest rhythm is silent by design.
My music stops when I start the metronome.
Open Settings in Polypulser and switch on Play Over Other Audio.
Playback stopped by itself.
A phone call or another app that takes over the audio stops playback. Switching tabs or loading a song stops it too. Press Play to start again.
How do I put different numbers of beats on different lines?
Touch and hold a beat's circle until it lifts, then drag it to another line. Drag it above the top line or below the bottom line to start a new line. The small circular arrow in the corner of the beat display restores the automatic layout.
How do I give a beat its own rhythm?
Tap the notes under the beat and choose a pattern. To use the same rhythm everywhere, tap Use for All Beats or the Rhythm tile next to the Beats stepper.
What is the difference between Sequential and Parallel?
They are the two ways the Poly screen plays its lines. Choose one with the Sequential | Parallel control at the top.
Sequential: the lines play one after another from top to bottom, one bar each, and then start again from the top.
Parallel: the lines you have ticked play at the same time, so they overlap, for example three against four. Tick or untick a line with the circle at its left. At least one line stays ticked.
Can I control Polypulser from my watch?
Yes, from an Apple Watch with the iOS app or from a Wear OS 3 (or later) watch with the Android app. Install Polypulser on both your phone and your watch; on Wear OS, get the watch app from the Play Store.
The watch shows the active setlist, the loaded song and its tempo. Start and stop the metronome, tap Songs to load a song from the active setlist, or turn the crown (or the bezel on Wear OS) to step to the previous or next song. Your phone plays the sound, so keep it nearby.
Can I mute a line on the Poly screen?
Yes. In Sequential mode, untick the circle at the left of a line. It keeps its turn and its notes still light up, but it makes no sound.
Can I change the tempo or accents while it plays?
Yes. Tempo, accent and rhythm changes take effect straight away and the bar keeps its place.
Can I go faster than 400 BPM?
Yes. Open Settings in Polypulser and set BPM Upper Limit to 800 or 1200 BPM. It sets the fastest tempo the – and + buttons, the swipe gesture and tap tempo offer. Songs already saved above the limit keep their tempo.
How do I move my setlists to another device?
On the Setlist screen, open the … menu and choose Share Setlist. Send the file any way your phone offers, for example by message or email. On the other device, open the file and choose Polypulser, or use Import Setlist.
Does Polypulser work with screen readers and larger text?
Yes. Beats can be moved between lines with screen reader actions (VoiceOver on iOS, TalkBack on Android) instead of dragging, and the tempo can be adjusted by swiping up and down.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Everything stays on your device. See the Privacy Policy.
